Vivek Menon

Having been part of the founding of five environmental and nature conservation organisations in India, one can without doubt say that Vivek Menon is the champion that wildlife in India needs.

A wildlife conservationist, environmental commentator, author, and photographer, Vivek Menon is part of several committees that advise the Indian government on natural heritage conservation. In addition, he is a member of four State Advisory Boards for Wildlife. Passionate about  Asian Elephants and their conservation, he is also the Chairperson of the IUCN’s Species Survival Commission (SSC) Asian Elephant Specialist Group.

In addition to his immense contribution to conservation in India , both on field and off it, Vivek Menon has also trained wildlife officers of over 50 countries, authored ten wildlife books, including the bestselling “Indian Mammals: A Field Guide”, which many Indian wildlife enthusiasts treat as the most authoritative book on Indian animals, authored countless technical reports and articles in various scientific publications, and been the recipient of several awards for his contribution to the field of conservation.

With conservationists like Vivek Menon working today, one can truly hope for a bright future for India’s wildlife.
