Overview
The very name of Borneo invokes images of dense rainforests full of beautiful birds. From the small Asian Fairy-bluebird, to raptors like Wallace’s Hawk-Eagle, the island of Borneo is teeming with amazing bird species. In addition, endemic species like Bornean Bristlehead and Blue-banded Pitta, and many more, make Borneo a birding haven. Join us as we explore this beautiful island, exploring the rich birdlife, as well as the animals that share their home.

Arrive at Sandakan airport and be transferred to Sepilok Nature Resort. Spend the rest of the evening resting and relaxing. Overnight in Sepilok Nature Resort.

Sepilok (Rainforest Discovery Centre) is home to: Bornean Bristlehead, Diard's Trogon, Banded Kingfisher, Rufous-collared Kingfisher, Hooded Pitta, Black-and-Crimson Pitta, Scarlet Minivet, Red-bearded Bee-Eater, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, White-bellied Munia, Indian Cuckoo, White Fronted Falconet, Oriental dwarf Kingfishers, Scarlet Rumped Trogon, Red-Naped Trogon, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Great Slaty-woodpecker, White Bellied-woodpecker, Velvet Fronted-Nuthatch, various Bee-eaters, Bulbuls, Flowerpeckers, Sunbird, Drongos, Hornbills, among others.

Birdwatching around Sepilok in the morning. At noon, we depart to Sukau on a 2.5 hr boat journey on Sabah's longest river, the Kinabatangan. Brief stops along the way when there are bird and wildlife sightings. Lower Kinabatangan is home to 210 species of birds. Check into the award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Morning and afternoon river cruise for bird watching. Visit Gomantong Caves on one of the evenings to watch the exodus of bats and bathawks. We would highly recommend our optional night cruise one of these nights as it offers an opportunity to get up close with sleeping birds nesting on the lower branches of trees and opportunity for great photographs.

Proceed to Lahad Datu for lunch and then onwards to Tabin Wildlife Reserve, another haven for bird watching enthusiasts which boasts approximately 220 species of birds.
Tabin is home to: Blue Eared Kingfisher, Stork billed Kingfisher, Pied Fantail, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Storm's Stork, Bornean Bristlehead, Blue-headed Pitta, Blue-banded Pitta, Dusky Munia, Black-throated Wren-babbler, Bornean Wren-babbler, Bulwer's Pheasant, Thick-billed Spiderhunter, Long-billed Spiderhunter, Grey-breasted Spiderhunter, Orange-bellied Flowerpecker, Yellow-rumped Flowerpecker, Grey-streaked Flycatcher, Purple-throated Sunbird, Plain Sunbird, Black-naped Monarch, Olive-backed Woodpecker, Red-naped Trogon, Scarlet-rumped Trogon, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Crested Goshawk, Ashy Tailorbird, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Black-backed Kingfisher, Rhinoceros Hornbill, Helmeted Hornbill, Wrinkled Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, White Crowned Hornbill, White-Fronted Falconet, Crested Fireback, raptors and various others.
