Overview
Located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, Pangot is the epitome of natural beauty. Dotted with Oak and Pine trees and interspersed with gurgling brooks, this sleepy little hamlet plays host to a plethora of rare Himalayan species. This tour has been specially designed so that you not only get to explore the lush nature trails and wildlife of this picturesque hamlet, but also learn more about Kumaoni culture.
Pangot is a small hamlet in Uttarakhand which lies just 15 km from Nainital. Walking into Pangot is like stepping into a remote Himalayan village. This birdwatchers' paradise has 250+ species of birds in and around as recorded by Jungle Lore Birding Lodge. This Lodge is India's first and foremost birding lodge and has been key to birding success in the region.
The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, the main habitats for excellent birding. The forests of Pangot and surrounding areas are dominated by thick Oak, Pine and Rhododendron. The streams passing by the area makes it an even more attractive place. Nainital covers the tropical, subtropical, temperate, subalpine zones. One can see Crested Serpent, Mountain Hawk and Black Eagles. Woodpeckers are Brown-fronted, Stripe-breasted, Rufous-bellied etc. Thrushes are Black-throated, Mistle, etc. Himalayan Prinia and a very rare Grey-crowned Prinia can be seen in the terraced fields. Warblers are Tickell's Leaf, Greenish, Grey-hooded etc. Flycatchers are Asian Brown, Rusty-tailed, Ultramarine, Verditer. Rufous-bellied Niltava etc., Himalayan Bluetail, Blue-capped Redstart, Laughingthrushes such as Streaked, White-throated, Striated & Chestnut-crowned. Look for Upland Pipit, Blue-winged Minla, Whiskered Yuhina, Slaty-headed and Red-breasted Parakeet, Grey Bush Chat, Long-tailed and Grey-backed Shrike, Common Kestrel, Besra, Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush etc. Black-headed Jay, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Rufous Sibia are common birds here. Pheasants found here are Cheer, Koklass and Kalij.

Arrive in Delhi, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to Pangot.
On arriving in Pangot at night, you will be completing the check-in procedure at India's premier birding lodge, Jungle Lore Birding Lodge.

While trailing in the region, you will be crossing paths with many sought-after Himalayan birds thriving in the region and will have the chance to spectate at several pristine creeks intertwining this unexplored hamlet of Kumaon. Cheer, Koklass and Kalij Pheasants, Crested Serpent Eagle, Mountain Hawk-Eagle, Woodpeckers such as Brown-fronted, Stripe-breasted, Rufous-bellied etc. Thrushes such as Black-throated, Mistle etc. Himalayan Prinia can be seen in the terraced fields. Look for accentors, Upland Pipit, Blue-winged Minla, Whiskered Yuhina, Slaty-headed & Red-breasted Parakeets, Grey Bush Chat, Long-tailed & Grey-backed Shrike, Common Kestrel, Besra, Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush etc. Streaked Laughingthrush is a common garden bird here.

Today go for an excursion to Nainital (18 km / 50 min.). Activities include a Lake Tour ( Naldamyanti Lake, Eagle Lake, Hanuman Lake, Ram Lake, Sita Lake, Laxman Lake, Bharat Lake, Bhim Tal, Nachiketa Tal), or visiting Nainital Zoo. Return to Pangot in the evening.

We have a full day today for short treks, village visits & birdwatching. You will enjoy the birdwatching session and will be able to spot birds of Pangot.

We have another full day for some birding and short treks. Embark on a journey into the lush forests of Pangot and walk alongside river streams. You can maybe even stop for a picnic at one of the picturesque spots overlooking the gorgeous views of the Himalayas.
