Corbett and Pangot Birding Trip Report
Birding with Mark Perry in Corbett and Pangot (20 May - 23 May 2024)
From May 20 to 23, 2024, I had the pleasure of joining Mark Perry on an exhilarating birding trip through the scenic landscapes of Corbett and Pangot. Guided by the expert Mahesh, we embarked on an adventure that was both enriching and unforgettable.
Our journey began in Jim Corbett National Park, where the diverse habitats provided a haven for birdwatching. We were thrilled to spot the majestic White-rumped Vulture and the agile Changeable Hawk-Eagle early in our trip. The vibrant colors of the Blue-tailed Bee-eater and Chestnut-headed Bee-eater added splashes of brilliance to our sightings.

We also encountered the Indian Pitta and Black-naped Monarch were highlights, showcasing their stunning plumage. We were also fortunate to witness the elegant Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the ethereal Indian Paradise Flycatcher.
Each day brought new surprises. The forests echoed with the calls of the White-crested Laughingthrush and the Chestnut-tailed Starling, while the elusive White-rumped Shama and the striking Red Junglefowl kept our binoculars busy. The Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker and Tickell's Blue Flycatcher were delightful additions to our list.
As we moved to the lush greenery of Pangot, our birding experience reached new heights. Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, and the elusive Koklass Pheasant. The Brown Wood Owls haunting gaze and the Bearded Vulture’s impressive wingspan were unforgettable. Maroon Oriole, Upland Pipit, Long-billed Thrush, and the stunning Rufous-bellied Niltava were among other remarkable sightings.

Pangot’s rich birdlife continued to amaze us with sightings of the Green-tailed Sunbird, Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush, and the Ultramarine Flycatcher. We were also thrilled to spot the Black-faced Warbler, Black Francolin, Greater Yellownape, Himalayan Shrike-babbler, Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler, and Himalayan Woodpecker.
In conclusion, the trip was a birding enthusiast’s dream come true, thanks to Mahesh’s expert guidance and Mark Perry's passion for birdwatching. We left with unforgettable memories and a rich list of avian wonders from Corbett and Pangot.
