Overview

Nestled amidst the Himalayas and the Shivaliks, and Rivers Ganges and Yamuna, Dehradun is one of the most popular hill stations of the country. Apart from being home to many tourist attractions, the Doon Valley is also a great birding destination, acting as a gateway to the rest of the Garhwal region, with species like Grey-headed and Scaly-bellied Woodpeckers, Crimson Sunbird, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Cinereous Vulture, and more.

Located 8km from Dehradun, Walterre is a beautiful cottage, complete with modern amenities, and a beautifully landscaped garden. The picturesque cottage makes for the ideal getaway with friends and family, while the verdant garden, orchard, and nearby river, make for some amazing birdwatching, with over 350 species of birds being sighted here.

Arrive in Delhi. You will be met by our representative and transferred to Walterre, Doon Valley. Enjoy the rest of the day birding around the resort.

Spend the full day today birding around the lodge and the adjoining River Tauns.

Day 03

Another full day of birding in and around Walterre. Did you know that the first record of the Nepal Cupwing in India was from Walterre’s gardens?

Enjoy a full day of birding in and around Walterre. The beautifully maintained gardens are peaceful, with the silence only broken by birdsong.

Walterre is one of the most relaxing places I have stayed at, ever. We had wrapped up a trip to Landour and Chopta, and stayed at Walterre for 2 nights before leaving for Bangalore. The experience was thoroughly enjoyable, and this is a must visit place if you like nature and chilling. The accommodation is superb. The house is very well decorated with paintings, prints and cartoons of natural history. We were in the peacock room, which had a blue theme. Very comfortable vintage designed beds, very comfortable and luxurious bathrooms. There are lots of places to sit and relax. Our favourite was the large terrace on the first floor. It has a lot of couches to curl up with a book in the day, and have a drink gazing at the distant lights of Mussoorie , in the evenings. There is a beautiful garden, where you can relax and take a small walk. The food is very homely and tasty. The staff is very helpful and eager to please. If you are a birder, there is a lot to do. The garden itself has crimson sunbird, white-crested laughingthrush, bar winged flycatcher shrike and lots of bulbuls. The stream nearby has 4 kingfishers, including crested. The scrub nearby has 60-70 species of birds. Walterre is ideally located to bookend a trip to Uttarakhand, especially if you are flying into or out of Dehradun. I would most highly recommend it !!

All the bookings and arrangements made by you worked really well for us, and we did not have any problems during the tour. We had a super wonderful 3-day stay at your place in March.
Sorry for late reply...but we feel we fell short of one more day's stay there at Walterre.
The staff was excellent and very cooperative...taking utmost care of all our needs and especially our Lil 9 month baby. My special mention for excellent home-style cooked food and hospitality beyond compare.
