Overview
The state of Gujarat is well-known for its rich history and culture, and delectable lip-smacking food. In addition, Gujarat is also a great destination for wildlifers, birdwatchers, and photographers. This Gujarat Culture and Wildlife Tour takes you to Gir National Park, the jewel in the crown of Wild Gujarat, as well as the beautiful Somnath Temple, and the nearby beach getaway of Diu.
Gir National Park is a national park in Gujarat, India. Established in 1965 for the protection of the Asiatic Lion, Gir National Park is made up mainly of dry deciduous and scrub types of forests, with many perennial rivers and streams crisscrossing the area. The wildlife of Gir includes large predators such as Asiatic Lion and Leopard, herbivores such as Spotted Deer, Sambar, and Nilgai, a variety of bird species, and more.
Apart from being home to the Asiatic Lion, the Gir National Park is also a delight for birdwatchers. The area hosts a variety of habitats, including forest, grassland, cliffs, and ponds, which play home to a wide variety of bird species both resident and migratory. Around 350 bird species are found here, including birds of prey, vultures, owls, nightjars, ducks, kingfishers, herons, egrets, storks, minivets, flycatchers, and many others. Sarus cranes visit the reserve for breeding during monsoon and may be seen up to November.
The Somnath temple is located in Prabhas Patan near Junagadh, and is believed to be the first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is an important pilgrimage and tourist spot of Gujarat.
An erstwhile Portuguese Colony and now a popular beach getaway destination, Diu is well known for its old Portuguese churches, Diu Fort, and, of course, the beautiful beach.
