There are many popular destinations spread across Kerala. Our visitors love getting a taste of the local culture and immersing themselves in the customs and practices that make these places unique. From architectural marvels to natural wonders, Kerala has a plethora of popular destinations for travelers to visit and enjoy. We start with Cochin where we visit Jewish Synagogue, St. Francis Church, the Dutch Palace and the Chinese fishing nets. We will also explore the tea plantations at Munnar and check out Mattupetty Dam, Echo point, Kundala Dam, and Top station.
Thattekkad, officially known as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, is a lowland forest with several types of ecosystems – Riverine, Grasslands, Evergreen, Scrub, Dry Deciduous, Lowland Forest, enabling it to be one of the best birding destinations in India. The forests of Thattekkad are also home to most of the endemics of the Western Ghats, including White-bellied Treepie, Rufous Babbler, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Wayanad Laughingthrush, Blue-winged Parakeet, Malabar Grey Hornbill, apart from owls like the Mottled Wood Owl, Sri Lanka Bay Owl, Oriental Scops Owl, Brown Fish Owl, and Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl. You should also be able to sight the Red Spurfowl, Grey Junglefowl, and the Grey-headed Fish Eagle.
Located at an altitude of 1600 m, Munnar is a haven for peace and tranquility. From vast tea plantations to an array of trekking trails and magical waterfalls, the place is blessed with several scenic spots which are capable of making your southern journey experiential. Munnar has several temples, viewpoints, and waterfalls one can visit, as well as the famous tea plantations.
Apart from the scenic beauty, Munnar is also a fantastic wildlife and birding destination. The nearby Eravikulam National Park and several “sholas” (a type of alpine meadow specific to the Western Ghats) make for a variety of endemic species.

Arrive at Kochi airport. You will be met by our representative and driven to Alleppey (54 km / 1.5 hrs). Arrive at Alleppey in the afternoon. Spend the evening on the houseboat. While you spend time, you can also do some birdwatching in Alleppey. The backwaters are great for aquatic birds.

Leave Alleppey and drive to Munnar. The five hours of scenic drive will take you to the famous tea garden plantation of Munnar. En-route visit Echo Point, Rose Garden, Floriculture Centre, Tea Museum, and Pothamedu View Point. Check in, the evening is free for leisure.

You have the full day of birding in Munnar to look for the amazing wildlife that this place is home to. Around Munnar, the pockets of the Shola forest and Nilgiri mountain grassland ecosystem are home to several of the endemic birds and various mammals including the Nilgiri Tahr in the nearby Eravikulam National Park.

Today check out and drive to Thattekad Bird Sanctuary (70 km / 2.5 hrs), a famous bird sanctuary where you can successfully sight your target species. Spend the evening with a birding walk near the premises of your accommodation.

A full day of birding in Thattekad. The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is home to a mix of habitats including evergreen forests, wetlands, grassland, and farmland, ensuring a great diversity of birds, especially Western Ghats endemics. From a birding point of view a nature walk here can be very rewarding, and the wildlife in Thattekad is amazing. Do ask us for a checklist.

You have the morning at leisure today. Alternatively, you can go for a quick birding walk to capture some species on your camera near the premises. Later, drive to Kochi Airport to travel to your onward destination. You should have got a long list of birds and many good photographs.
