Overview
While everyone knows about the more iconic animals of the Indian jungles, it takes a pure love for wildlife and a discerning eye to look for the rarer animals. This tour focuses on the search for a unique primate endemic to the Western Ghats of India, the Lion-tailed Macaque. In addition, we will also be looking for the Ghost of the Indian Jungle, the leopard, a shy big cat that is often hard to see. Even rarer are the melanistic leopards, often called Black Panthers, and once thought to be a separate species.
Valparai is a pristine hill station located in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The place stands majestically with Green Spread Mountains and forests all around. It shares its border with Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Eravikulam National Park, and the Vazhachal forest division. This is one destination that should not be missed out on by people who wish to experience natural beauty in its purest form. Asian Elephants, Leopards, Boards, Lion-tailed Macaques, Giant Squirrels, and Nilgiris Tahr can be easily spotted in this part of the region.
Nagarhole (or Rajiv Gandhi) National Park is located in the Kodagu (Coorg) and Mysore districts in Karnataka. Along with the adjoining Bandipur Tiger Reserve, it is one of India’s premier tiger reserves. The park has rich forest cover, small streams, hills, valleys and waterfalls. The park has a healthy predator-prey ratio, with many tigers, Gaur, elephants, Indian leopards (including melanistic or black leopards), and deer (Chital, Sambar, etc.).
