With a great mix of habitats and elevations, Uttarakhand promises an amazing birdwatching experience. Chopta and Mandal in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary offers a relatively leisurely paced and highly fruitful birding and photography tour.

With a mix of fantastic landscapes and biomes, from Himalayan forests to alpine meadows, Chopta provides excellent birding opportunities. It is probably the best place in India to see the stunning Himalayan Monal, the state bird of Uttarakhand, as well as many other birds including Koklass Pheasant, Wallcreeper, Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, and various Himalayan woodpeckers, rosefinches and laughingthrushes.
