Wings of Ability: Making Nature Accessible for All
Nature’s restorative benefits are available to all, yet physical and social barriers frequently prevent disabled individuals from experiencing them. That’s what Wings of Ability was designed to change.
Teaming up with Asian Adventures and Global Wildlife Fair, we’re launching a new program to make the outdoors more inclusive and welcoming. Disabled nature lovers can explore the outdoors at their own pace in our welcoming, curated half-day outing. The ground is even. Things are moving slowly. It’s in nature that we find peace and connection.
Disability advocates and accessibility experts provided direct input that informed every detail, from trail design to the recommended walking speed. Wings of Ability opens the door for wheelchair users, blind or visually impaired persons, and others with mobility disabilities to share an amazing experience of the outdoors in a transformational way. We work hard to inspire the beauty of nature for all.
Half-Day Nature Walk with Asian Adventures
Collaborating with Asian Adventures, this half-day nature outing empowers people to have a certain level of confidence and connection to the outdoors and navigate that as a safe experience in wild spaces.
The day will start with a warm welcome followed by an orientation day where participants are able to assess us, meet the team, and give their specific requirements. Support and comfort will be provided throughout the experience by trained accessibility guides and volunteers.
A knowledgeable naturalist leads a serene, accessible nature walk later in the day, suitable for wheelchair users. Participants can relax and take their time appreciating the native plants, birds, and wildlife, with regular breaks built into the route.
We’ll enjoy a calming, creative time after our walk. A facilitator will help participants visualize, either through drawing, writing, or nature-inspired art, and reflect on their personal life experiences as well as sensory experiences of the day.
After a thunderous dialogue on wildlife and conservation, the Nature Walk ends with a CLOSING CIRCLE where they can come together and collectively reflect.
