Gujarat Birding And Wildlife Tour

Code: # 110

The Gujarat Birding and Wildlife Tour takes you to the best birding and wildlife destinations in the state of Gujarat. Velavadar National Park was created for the conservation of the Blackbuck. The Indian Grey Wolf and the Golden Jackal are the main predators. Other mammals likely to be seen are Bengal Fox, Indian Hare, Indian Desert Gerbil, Jungle Cat, and Nilgai. One can spot many species of birds of prey, like Montagu’s and Pallid Harriers, Black-winged Kite, Shikra, and Short-toed Snake Eagle, as well as other birds like Stoliczka’s Bushchat, Ashy- crowned Sparrow-Lark, Rufous-tailed and Crested Larks, Desert and Variable Wheatears, and Southern Grey and Rufous–tailed Shrikes. Common Crane and waders can be spotted on the Alag River. Gir National Park is famous as the home of the Asiatic Lion. Apart from being home to this big cat, it is also a delight for birdwatchers. The area hosts a variety of habitats, which play home to a wide variety of bird species both resident and migratory. Around 350 bird species are found here, including birds of prey, vultures, owls, nightjars, ducks, kingfishers, herons, egrets, storks, minivets, flycatchers, and many others. Khijadia Bird Sanctuary, on the outskirts of Jamnagar, is an excellent birdwatching area due to a unique mixed ecology. Birds of both seashore and freshwater habitats are found here including Great Crested Grebe, Red-naped Ibis, Black-necked Stork, Black-winged Stilt, Crab-plover, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Ruddy Turnstone, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Brahminy Kite, Common Crane, Grey- headed Swamphen, Greylag Geese, Flamingoes, Dalmatian Pelicans, and many duck species. Other wildlife found in the sanctuary included the Golden Jackal, Indian Hare, Jungle cat, and Nilgai. The Rann of Kutch is a seasonally marshy region located in the Thar Desert geographic region. As it dries in the winter sun, it becomes a desert like expanse of dry silt, interspersed by lagoons and small islands of vegetation called ‘bets’. The southeast portion of the Rann has been designated as the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, as it is home to the rare and endangered Indian Wild Ass or “Khur”. The Rann is also a birding paradise. One can expect numerous dryland bird species like Grey Hypocolius, Marshall’s Iora, sandgrouse, larks, coursers, plovers, chats, warblers, babblers, and shrikes. Among the many winter visitors is the highly endangered Macqueen’s Bustard. The saline desert is also a perfect hunting ground for many species of raptors, like eagles, falcons, buzzards, and harriers. There is also an opportunity for wetland birding at the lakes and marshes around the Rann. Winter is the time when Common Cranes, Greylag Geese, and many other waterfowl species are seen in abundance. This adventurous excursion is a meticulously handcrafted Gujarat Tour Package that is focused upon unfolding the widlife heritage of Gujarat.
